9 ways to take care of your skin during pregnancy

Skincare during pregnancy

Are you worried that the hormonal changes in your body might affect your skin? Well, pregnancy brings a lot of changes in your body, this is natural. But if you are still worried, here are few safe tips for having a healthy glowing flawless skin during pregnancy:

1. Eat healthy

Your skin reflects what you eat. Therefore, eating healthy is quintessential! Include foods rich in vitamin A such as milk, carrot, fish and egg in your diet. Include green leafy vegetable, strawberries, citrus fruits etc in your diet as they have anti-oxidants that can slow the aging process.

2. Stay hydrated

Water helps in flushing out toxins from body and brings out the inner glow. It is also good for your digestion and helps you with problems like constipation. So, don’t forget to drink  sufficient amount of water throughout the day and carry water with you wherever you go.

3. Get enough sleep

During pregnancy you need at least 8-10 hours of sleep each night. Sleeping well will rejuvenate your body and will help you prevent under eye bags and dark circles.

4. Exercise

Gentle exercise once a day will improve the circulation of your body. The burst of endorphins will also make you feel happier and will help you sleep well.

5. Avoid harsh soaps

Soaps can wash off the natural oil of your skin leaving it dry. Use mild face wash and moisturiser to keep your skin soft and smooth.

6. Use sunscreen & moisturiser

Make sunscreen and moisturiser the part of your daily beauty regime. Go for oil-free versions.

7. Avoid acne medication

Drugs like Accutane, Retin-A and other topical retinoids can be absorbed through your skin and can reach your baby’s bloodstream.

8. Use a body oil

Though you cannot avoid stretch marks during pregnancy, but keeping your skin moisturised will improve the elasticity of your skin. You can use any natural oil like almond oil daily focussing on breasts, belly and hips areas.

9. Use less makeup

Remember ‘less is more’! Go for pregnancy-friendly foundation. Look out for more natural alternatives. Also, your skin may go from oily to dry or the other way round- adjust your skincare and makeup to suit your skin’s changing needs.

Pregnancy is the best time to get pampered. So brace yourself and enjoy every moment of motherhood. Happy pregnancy!
