Working during pregnancy- Do’s and Don’ts

Pregnancy is a beautiful thing but comes with a lot of challenges. But this does not mean that you should leave your job or stop working. You can make it better if you take certain precautionary measures. Some women work till 39 weeks of their pregnancy and some keep their maternity leave for the time after the baby is born.

So, if you are scared of any mishaps during your pregnancy then we would say that there is nothing to worry about. You just need to be extra careful while working during pregnancy.

Issues like nausea, mood swings and other pains will not be scheduled as per your work. It will be difficult for you due to the changes that the body undergoes but nothing is impossible. Here are some do’s and don’ts for all you working ladies:

Fill yourself: Make sure you are carrying enough snack with you during working hours because your baby needs food too. Do this to avoid starvation. Fruits, dry fruits, salads etc. can be good options. Try to keep yourself away from all the smells that trigger your nausea. So, if you are planning to have your favourite cup of latte, think twice.

Hydration:  Keep yourself hydrated as much as possible. Drink water on regular intervals. You can also go for fresh juices. Consumption of caffeine and alcohol is a big no no.

Keep moving: Take regular breaks and avoid prolonged working hours. Give time to your mind and body to relax.

Say hi to the doctor: Since you are working you need to go for regular checkups so that you get to know the progress.

Exercising: Regular exercising is a must. It will keep you fit and will keep you active all day.

Must Not

Stress: Don’t take much stress of your work. Try to limit the tasks which you need to do and take up tasks that are manageable.

Comfortable Dressing: Wear as comfortable clothing as possible. Don’t wear tight clothes that will make you uncomfortable the whole day.

Be grounded: Try not to lift heavy things and keep your feet as relaxed as you can. While walking on the stairs be cautious or even while using an escalator.

Road safety: If you are driving always be aware of the road safety. Wear the seat belt at all times. Try being a passenger when required.

Take a leave from work if required: If you are not feeling comfortable working then take a leave or request your boss for adjustable working hours.

Working during pregnancy might look difficult but is not impossible. Just a little extra care and you are all set to conquer the world. Happy Pregnancy!
