3 best ways to cope with Restless Leg Syndrome

Restless Leg Syndrome during pregnancy

Restless leg syndrome is a very annoying condition faced by pregnant women. It is a distressful state where pregnant women face a strange pain in their legs. It takes away their good night’s sleep and becomes troublesome at the end.

This generally happens due to lack of iron intake and hormonal changes. A lot of women do stretching of their legs or taking a massage, rather than going to a doctor. However, when the condition worsens then doctors’ advice is necessary and no test is required except a physical one.

It is very common among pregnant women but is a temporary phenomenon.  About 16%  of the pregnant women face this problem. To prevent this, you need to keep a check on your eating habits by taking the essential vitamins, eating healthy, not consuming alcohol and tobacco, taking regular showers and a little bit of exercise.

The other symptoms for restless leg syndrome are crawling, tingling, or burning sensations. This generally takes pace during evening and night time. The pain is generally on the lower part of the legs.

How to cope up?
Exercising and muscle work

For a lot of pregnant women, regular exercising is very helpful. This revives all the lost energy. So the first thing that you can do in the morning is to take a long walk or do squats before going to bed. That will be very helpful.

Doing Yoga

Instead of shaking your legs late at night and getting your sleep disturbed, try to do yoga for some time. Doing it for 15 to 20 minutes will also be helpful. Doing some stretching is also good because it will stretch your muscles and increase the blood flow in your body. You can do this in the morning or even before going to bed.

Relaxing

By relaxing, we mean that you can just take some time off and sit and think about the good things. Avoid any sort of negativity. Take deep breaths and close your eyes. Slowly count till ten and make sure that with every number that you say it goes deeper inside your skin and relaxes you. Repeat this as many times as you can as this will help in putting you to a good sleep.

Healthy food and exercise are the best ways to have healthy pregnancy and labor.
