If you are getting worried due to sudden constipation then relax! There is nothing to worry about. About half of the pregnant women get constipated at some point during their pregnancy.
The cause for this are the hormonal changes that take place in your body. There is an increase in hormone progesterone which relaxes smooth muscles throughout the body, including the digestive tract. Therefore the food passes more slowly through the intestine. The increasing pressure of the growing uterus also has an important role to play. High intake of iron doses can make constipation worse.
You can follow these tips to help with constipation.
Let good food stimulate your mood
Eat food which are rich in fiber such as cereal and breads. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables too.
Water = best friend
Consume at least 1 liter of water daily along with other beverages like juices and probiotic drinks (try sipping something after sometime until your urine is clear or pale yellow in color. This is sign of pure hydration.) Taking a glass of fresh juice will be great. Some women are also comfortable in taking warm water with a few drops of lemon in the morning. Try cutting out on liquids like tea and coffee, this can dehydrate you.
Exercise exercise exercise
Walking regularly and doing regular exercises can ease constipation and make you more fit and healthy. Practicing yoga positions can also help in toning your stomach muscles.
A lot of women put up a question about whether constipation becomes severe or not, but if you are having severe constipation accompanied by abdominal pain and diarrhea then this can be the cause of some other problem. In case of this refer to your doctor for advice. In most cases they go away after the baby is born. However if the pain continues, consult your doctor and take medicines if necessary.
In the meantime, be at ease because there is no problem and you are good to go.
