If you have ever been or are pregnant, you know how dreaded morning sickness is! But every cloud has a silver lining and so does the morning sickness cloud! Let us elaborate further.
Hormonal surge in your bloodstream causes vomiting, retching etc that are all the symptoms of morning sickness. So, it signifies the presence of required hormones and is considered a sign of good health. But hormonal increase causes other changes too and not only morning sickness. So morning sickness, in itself, is not an indicator for being in the pink of health during pregnancy.
What is hCG?
Human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) is the most likely cause of morning sickness and is produced in early stages of pregnancy. hCG is the key to good development in pregnancy. At around 9 weeks (63 days), concentration of hCG reach their crest and fall off thereafter due to competing hormones being produced. By 140 days, it recedes due to the receding levels of hCG.
The higher the number of kids you are expecting, higher is the severity of sickness due to hormones being produced. Being already sensitive to nausea means your pregnancy is going to be a bumpy ride with higher than usual sickness involved.
On the other hand, you might be one of the lucky ones and not experience sickness at all. Well, a bullet dodged there. It is entirely normal too.
If you are working during pregnancy, try and eat light, stay away from spicy food, go for walks to breathe in fresh air and just try to be as normal as possible.
Good luck for the somewhat queasy ride!
