Your baby’s fat layers continue to build up. His organ systems are fully developed and in place. His lungs are still maturing and producing more surfactant. Surfactant prevents the air sacs in the lungs from sticking to each other once he starts to breathe. His brain and nervous system are also developing and is prepared to manage breathing, digesting, eating and maintaining a proper heart rate. For boys, his testicles have descended into the scrotum. For girls, the labia are fully developed.
